As the Storage market embraces SSD and flash there is the constant question of how long will it take for SSDs to replace hard disk drives. There are a lot of opinions about when folks will be all flash in the data center and most of those opinions are based on conjecture rather than fact.

The availability of solid state storage has fueled new storage platforms. One thing I am constantly asked is ‘what is the best way to implement solid state in networked storage platforms?’ Since I work for a vendor that uses solid state as cache, I clearly have a bias, but then so does every other vendor. Someone has to be right about what will be the pre-dominate use case and here is why I believe that it will be unified hybrid storage.
